Kazakhstan has inaugurated the Almaty Museum of Arts, the first major private museum dedicated to modern and contemporary art in Central Asia, housing a collection of over 700 works by Kazakh and regional artists. Designed by British studio Chapman Taylor to echo the surrounding Tien Shan mountains, the museum opens with the exhibition Qonaqtar (“Guests”), which brings together works across generations and includes both local figures and renowned international artists such as Yinka Shonibare, Jaume Plensa, and Alicja Kwade, positioning the museum as a new cultural landmark in the region.
